As the Scottish Government prepares to draft up proposals for the introduction of a tourist tax in more cities around the country, public consultation sessions are being held to invite members of the public to have their views heard on the matter, and find out more about the 'transient visitor levy'.
Edinburgh became the first UK city to introduce a tourist tax earlier this year, when councillors voted overwhelmingly to implement the levy, which is expected to create between £11.6m and £14.6m per year for the capital.

Although the government says that comments made at the consultations "will not contribute to the official consultation process", they are encouraging residents from around the North-East to have their opinions and queries heard to "inform and develop our understanding and consideration of the issues".
The sessions are free to attend and will take place next Wednesday and Thursday evening at North-East Scotland College. Registration and more information is available here.
